Alright you guys, I have to be honest.Ā I’m probably not the craftiest blogger you follow, not by a long shot…but still, on occasion, I’ll bust out a good (and always easy) DIY that even I can be proud of, lolĀ š.
What?š¤·š»āāļøĀ I can be hard to please.Ā š¬
Okay, so this DIY pumpkin craft only requires 4 supplies! Soooo easy!! Annnnnd I got all mine in one place. Can you guess where??Ā Ā MichaelsĀ of course!Ā Lol!Ā Y’all know I love me some Michaels!
List of Supplies
- Craft Pumpkins (your choice of color)
- Crackle Medium (or crackle paint)
- Paint color(s) of your choice
- Paint brush
So basically how this works is, you need to decide 1) what color you want the exterior of your pumpkin to be, and 2) what color you want coming THROUGH the cracks.
In my particular case, I wanted all my pumpkins to be different shades of green or orange, and I wanted the color coming through the cracks to be white (which saved me a step because the pumpkins I bought were already white).Ā Most craft pumpkins already come in either white or orange, but if you’re wanting a different color to peek through the crackle, you’ll need to start by painting your pumpkins the desired base color (I’ll explain more below).

Directions:
Step 1: wipe the pumpkins down & dry them so that there’s no dust or dirtāthis step is optional of course but it makes for a smoother surface to paint on.
Step 2: choose your base color (the color peeking through the cracks), & paint your pumpkin(s) with this color.Ā (Pro tipĀ š: if you want white or orange to come through the cracks, then just buy that color craft pumpkin & you can omit this step all together, like I didĀ š).Ā If you do choose to paint an alternate base color, just make sure you let the paint dry completely before you move on to step 3.
Step 3: Once your base paint is dry, you can now paint over it with the Crackle Medium.Ā The medium is clear so make sure to coat the pumpkin entirely.Ā I found it easiest to start on one side, paint vertically, and work my around to the same place I started.Ā (Otherwise I got lost & forgot where I began, lol).Ā Again, make sure the Crackle Medium is COMPLETELY dry before you move on to step 4.

Step 4: Now that the medium is totally dry, go ahead & paint your top layer.Ā (This will be the main color of your pumpkin.)Ā The best advice I can give you here is to make sure you move quickly, paint as evenly as possible with the strokes all going in the same direction, and do NOT coat the paint on too thick.Ā As the paint dries, you will see the crackling effect.Ā If you layer the paint on too thick it won’t crackle as well.Ā Then, just make sure to let the pumpkins dry completely before you move them.
Voila!Ā That’s it! So easy right?!
If you intend to keep your pumpkins outside you may want to use an outdoor paint, or seal the pumpkins with some sort of sealant that will keep the paint from peeling, but otherwise you’re all done!Ā Feel free to start decorating with them!

Hope you guys enjoyed this fun & easy DIY!!Ā If you try it out let me know! I’d love to see pics of y’alls masterpieces!!Ā Also, let me know if y’all have seen this crackle medium used for other projects! I had so much fun with it so I’m trying to think of more creative ways to use it!!
Talk soon buddies!!
